Noah's Landing

Our family recently went on a homeschool field trip to Noah's Landing. It was a wonderful place full of all different and amazing creatures. The boys had a wonderful time! Here are some of the highlights.

Battle of Bentonville

The reenactment of the Civil War Battle of Bentonville takes place in NC every 5 years. We were blessed that is was this year, during the month of our study of the Civil War.

30,000 people were expected to attend this event, this is along the walk to the battlefield.

We plopped our chairs down and Big C was convinced that people would sit down. Unfortunately, they didn't happen, so he and the little boys didn't see much. The big boys and I made out way to the front and I was on my knees in the dirt for an hour, but it was worth it!

(C2 took this picture)

After the battle, marching off the field.

The boys all got new guns and were just a tad excited. Don't miss C2 on the ground in the back!

Gotta love history!
We just finished out unit on the Civil War. We are blessed to live near many places that we can go to have a hands on learning experience regarding the Civil War. The first place we went was Pamplin Park, a Civil War museum in Virginia.

We went with our Tapestry of Grace Homeschool Group and the boys absolutely loved it! Here are some of our favorite pictures from the trip!

Union soldiers!

A confederate!

Since Big C's dad lives in VA, we combined our field trip with a family visit! Love when that happens! He took us to Hollywood cemetary. We have never been to a cemetary before. I wasn't sure what the boys would thing, but they loved it!

The marker for Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy! They searched long and hard for that one!

Civil War

We have been studying the Civil War for the past two weeks. The boys have really been enjoying it. Yesterday we spent the afternoon with our Tapestry of Grace homeschool coop learning doing crafts, playing games and eating food from this era. Here are some pictures of what we did!

The station that I manned for our coop time was food. So C2 and L made some hardtack. I didn't expect the kids to like it, but they really did!

We always begin our time together with a story. Here is the whole group all together.

Here is L at a craft station weaving.

C1 making a marzipan decoration. Marzipan was very popular among wealthy Southern families as a decoration on desserts.
