Solar Eclipse

This past week in Astromony we were learning about Solar Eclipses. So we attempted to make a model of an eclipse. So the 5 of us jammed into my closet and turned out the light. The flashlight was the sun and the white ball was the moon. I took this picture in the dark. It was a great visual, but the flash was on so in this picture it looks like the light was on. It was a fun experiment!

Soccer!

C2 and L have started soccer, so this Saturday we packed a cooler and spent the morning at the soccer field. Luke was first. What a sight! How to keep the attention of a group of 4 year old boys is beyond me! Coach was extremely patient as kids around him were crying, taking their shirts off, and singing Rolling Stones songs. Oh yeah, that last one would be our L! He had a blast though. I think he really feels like a big boy!

Then it was time for C2's game....they did great! It was such an exciting game. We were so impressed with the way the boys played together and how hard they worked. What a difference between 4 year olds and 7 year olds! C2's team won 4-2 and he scored 2 goals! Yeah !! Check out the picture of him taking a penalty kick.

Crazy Hair Day!

The boys are participating in AWANA at a local church and love it! They learn biblical principles, memorize Scripture, play games and have other fun activities. This week was crazy hair day! Check it out! We only sprayed Luke a little, so you can't see it that well The can said not to use on blondes!

Family Day at UNC Law School

As many of you know, I am thrilled to have my brother D here from NY attending Law School! Well this week, my dad, stepmom and uncle all came down and we went to Family Day at UNC. We got to hear from the dean and sit in a "class" and go over a case. Then we enjoyed BBQ on the front lawn. Afterward D gave us a tour of the campus and we got some t-shirts on Franklin Street. It was an awesome day! I was proud of D before, but after hearing all about what he is doing and will be doing for the next 3 years, I am even more proud!

Wow! It's been busy!

Hi Everyone!

So sorry we haven't written in a while! It has been crazy around here! We have had a fun and busy couple of weeks. Here are the highlights!

We did an experiment in Astronomy called, "Use a Magnifying Glass to focus Heat". The magnifying glass concentrated the energy of the sun's light and the chocolate bar actually started to smoke! You can see the piece on the right that has a burn mark on it. I was amazed. The boys...they were curious, making comments like, can we hold it up to a leaf? What will happen? Big C shared memories of insect torture. Before any fires erupted, we brought the magnifying glass inside!

L had his first Preschool Coop! There are 7 families in the group and we rotate houses. Each week we study a different letter of the alphabet. We do some structured activities, but there is also a lot of free play.
The first coop was at our house and L was thrilled! All the children in the group are boys! We learned about the letter A. Our activities included making mini apple pies, fingerpainting apples on trees (see picture) and learning about Abraham. It was a blast!
As many of you know we've been studying the Middle Ages. We are in a coop with 3 other families and we are all using the same curriculum. So we got together and planned a Mid Unit Celebration. It was so fun! Each mom led a different activity. We made and ate pretzels, learned some magic tricks, tried to juggle, made "Robin Hood" and princess hats, and played some Medieval games. The boys had such a great time!

Hope that gets you up to speed on what we are up to! Blessings to you all!
